Tundavala is situated just out side of Lubango in southern Angola, on the edge of the steep an impressive Angolan escarpment. The area is well known, with many specimens collected here by the IICA during the 1960s-1970s and with several visits since 2005. A small population of the Endangered Swierstra's Francolin still occurs here.
