Cangandala National Park (Kangandala) is situated in Malanje province, 45 km south-east of the provincial capital and 390 km east-south-east of Luanda. The reserve is most famous for its small population of Giant Sable Hippotragus niger variani which is the focus of one of the country's most important conservation projects (http://angolafieldgroup.com/tag/ giant-sable/). Currently access is not possible to visitors.

Dean (2001) summarised the avifauna of Cangandala National Park as known prior to the mid-1970s. Subsequently Pedro Vaz Pinto has made more than 50 visits to the park, adding greatly to the knowledge of the birds here. MSL Mills has also now made two visits (Aug 2006 and May 2012). Updated information based on these records has been published by Mills et al. (2008) and documented in an unpublished report by Mills (2012). Both these can be downloaded below.
