The Lubango Bird Skin Collection, amassed by the IICA under A. A. de Rosa Pinto, is the largest single collection of specimens of Angolan birds. It has almost 40 000 specimens, making it the third largest bird skin collection in Africa.

The collection itself houses several type specimens, summarised in this paper.

After a short visit in 2005 (see the report), we launched a full two-week-long visit to the skin collection in 2008, in order to catalogue the collection electronically. You can read about our visit in this report published in the Bulletin of the African Bird Club.

The database is now nearing completion and will be made available online during the coming years.
